A New Phase

It should be obvious by the lack of updates to this blog that I’ve been a little stuck with respect to Sir Richard. Apart from the fact that, for the last year or so, I’ve been concentrating intently on The Sacred Antinous, I’ve also been blocked in my creative expression by the nagging sensation that the photosets are not quite “cutting it” in terms of my original vision for the character.

What I’ve always wanted for Sir Richard (and his compatriots) is to hear the words spoken and acted out loud, as iambic porntameter is meant to be experienced. To be sure, the erotica I’ve written to date is always fun to look at, but it consistently falls flat for me, even though I know exactly how the words are supposed to be delivered. I can only imagine how staid these earliest Chronicles are for those visitors who come to the site and try to read through the verse, without any fore-knowledge about the technical aspects of the writing.

The ideal solution, of course, would be to produce each of these episodes with living bodies. But this raises a whole other set of problems, namely, Toronto’s dearth of classically-trained, porn-friendly queer actors willing to work on a shoestring budget.

As a result, over the past year I found myself putting off the Chronicles until I was able to figure out how to 1) increase the dynamism of each presented scenario and 2) bring the text to life as I hear it in my head.

After much contemplation and imaginative ramblings, I think I’ve finally found some answers. What I’ve realized is that I need to quit licensing entire photo-sets from commercial suppliers of pornographic generica and go directly to the source of amateur fun: X-Tube. The ability to embed videos into the Sir Richard site will suddenly bring live action video into the mix, and whatever verses are written can be recorded on top of the video, or, alternatively, delivered in an entirely separate production featuring me as the voice of Sir Richard.

In effect, the Chronicles will shortly be moving into a new phase: one that’s slightly more complex than the photosets, but still some ways off from where I want them to be. A key obstacle to making this work will be the fact that I won’t have direct access to or control of the original source videos, and am at risk of having those videos removed by their owner at anytime. To compensate, I’ll likely be writing to screen-grabs, so that at the very least there will be a record of the images, even if the video is subsequently pulled from X-Tube. But I don’t really care, because at the end of the day, this new phase is just a stepping stone toward regular, full-on productions of iambic porntameter, written, directed and produced by me with a cadre of smart, talented, fearless and able actors.

Thus, as I ramp up for a new phase of the site, I’m slowly converting my studio loft into a versatile, mini production facility that will be able to vodcast the emerging character of Sir Richard Wadd – the live actor. Stay tuned for more details!
